btw.. i have gotten my copy of the limited edition FFxii Limited edition soundtrack.. 2 weeks ago.. kept wanting to commenting abt it but no time to blog. so here it goes

I am simply so glad i parted with 55 bucks to get this soundtrack which is totally worth it. It comes with a very very nice packaging and a 28 page booklet that look absolutely stunning. Juz that all the words are in Jap. argh.. cant read it.
But every single cents spent is worthwhile. The soundtrack consist of 100 tracks exactly, this includes music that are not used in the final game as well. All 100 tracks of the album were masterfully composed and arranged by hitoshi Sakimoto. This guy replaces Nobuo Uematsu who have been the composer of the FF series since the 1st installment.
I wasnt really sure wad to expect from this soundtrack initally and wanted to pass the chance of getting the soundtrack. After all, i had nv ever heard any of Hitoshi Sakimoto's work b4. Part of the reason y FF was famous was becos of its memorable music by Nobuo Uematsu that brought out the emotions of the game. Alas i bought the soundtrack cos i was given a discount.. haha.. and the term limited edition is hard to resist too.
Several of the more iconic cues of the FF series where used in this soundtrack. They were given a sort of upgrade to it in terms of arrangement. The entire arrangement of each piece of music in this soundtrack was of a more mature kind of style. More towards hollywood and blockbuster films than games. orchestra were used or at least synthesizers synthesized to make it sounds like a real orchestra was used which was pulled off very well. I wasnt able to tell the difference between a synthesized track and one played by the real orchestra. haha..
While the previous composer goes for melody that are simple and easy to remember, Hitoshi Sakimoto chooses to go a more complicated way. Less on melodic aspect and more on arrangement perfection. This album is filled with lots of layers of instruments and changes in instrumental arrangement. It does not mean that its not good, juz that it needs some time to get used to as it lean more towards classicial music genre.
To tell the truth, I wasnt able to click with any of the tracks after running through the entire 4 disc the 1st time through, but it juz sort of gets betten during the 2nd time and it wasnt long after that i was able to hum out the themes. The main theme of the game is simply magnificent.
The main vocal track, kiss me goodbye was delivered by Nobuo Uematsu and sung by a Japanese American, Angela Aki. Very soulful, very nice. A solid track that i lyk a lot.
overall, i would say that this is one of the best soundtrack that i ever owned. Even better that lots of hollywood soundtracks that i have or heard. It is not easy to have the patience to listen through 4 disc with 5 hour worth of music. It got to be really really good to keep one going. FF12 Soundtrack is an ultra solid piece of work. Ablsolutely worth my $$!
The soundtrack proves to be a masterpiece. Lets hope the game does the same too. 4 more mths of waiting for the english version to hit the stores. argh! i cant wait!!
